The retro-futuro watches from Lip look like they were designed in the 1950′s for the flying car age of the 2000′s. The brand was recently relaunched, and the Mythic (left) and Fridge (right) are two watches in the new line.

“It’s hailed as the First Automatic Board Watch for the Wrist, and features a double strap and display, consisting of a chronograph on the right and a standard display on the left. It measures a full 84mm x 42mm.”

Seiko Discus

“Unlike some of the more cryptic modern watches coming out of Japan these days, the Seiko Discus is actually quite easy to read. A set of three numbered discs continuously rotate to display hours, minutes and seconds. The wheels are are partially masked by a frosted glass face with a clear glass window highlighting the current time. If you can’t figure that out, a tiny pair of green arrows on the glass make it even more obvious what time it is.

The Discus is part of Seiko’s Moving Image series, a line of automatic timepieces with decidedly contemporary styling. It’s available in two versions: one with a stainless body and white face, and another with a black metal body and a smoked glass face.

While the Discus is not officially for sale in North America, I was able to find a couple over on eBay, priced at about $890 each.”

“The Vulcania name derives from the Jules Verne Steampunk hero, Captain Nemo and the island which was his home port. Like many of his contemporaries, Gonet has deconstructed the watch with its functions in a deeply set three-dimensional display, separating each gauge as a tribute to vintage naval technology both fictional (Nautilus) and fact (Turn-of-the-century mechanical submarines). The hours are determined from the rotating wheel cylinders on the left, the minutes on a disc like a ship’s Chadburn Telegraph, a sextant style power reserve indicator, porthole loupe date window, and highlighted by the tilted bi-axial tourbillon. All the watch functions can be seen through its front and rear sapphire glass panels, side-viewing porthole, and the back plate has an etched map with its coordinates engraved on it. The case is titanium and platinum.”

O singura piesa produsa (deocamdata). Pretul? $625,000 la o licitatie.

Sistemul de slot-machine chiar functioneaza. Daca va uitati atent in partea dreapta are un levier care pune in miscare butoiasele.

Dupa succesul pe care l-a avut la licitie, compania intentioneaza sa mai produca 40 de bucati. Prima a durat 3ani jumate. Probabil ca pe restul le vor produce ceva mai repede.

Marea majoritate a oamenilor vor fi deacord ca e o tampenie sa dai mai mult de 1000E/$/L pe un ceas. ORICE CEAS! In schimb trebuie sa fii nebun de legat ca sa dai 400mii $ pe un ceas. Pretul pentru Cabestan Winch Tourbillion e pe-acolo. Din punctul meu de vedere, arata senzational si se vede ca este lucrat superb, dar 400.000!? FFS cate diamante are in el?

Multi vor spune … are 1352 de componete, din care numai lantul care transmite miscarea, are 450 de verigi … e normal sa coste atat de mult! Yeah, right! Si marmota invelea ciocolata in staniol. Cu 400k$ imi iau apartament la Amsterdam mobilat si echipat de la Bang&Olufsen + Fiat 500 Abrath + un sistem Leica foarte bine pus la punct si mai raman si bani de vacanta. Daca nu erau siguri c`o sa se vanda, foarte probabil ca nici nu-l gandeau, asa ca nu-mi fac griji ca o sa se gaseasca vre-un cantaret de Hip-Hop de prin LA sa-i faca vanzare, iar apoi toti copii de bani gata de pe coasta de vest a Americii or sa poarte unul d-asta la mana.
